Assessments
BRINGING THE CHILD IN FOR TESTING
- Tell your child in simple language why they are here,
eg,'It has to do with the trouble you have had with reading,
we want to make reading easier for you'
- After the first family consultation the child is seen
individually. Do not press the child for details about this
interview, except to ask, 'Was that okay?'
- Feedback is given to parents alone if problems have been
found, to preserve the child's self-esteem.
- If the child needs any therapy, they are told, 'Here are
some exercises that really help children, let's try it and
see how you like it' or 'Playing here will really help you
with your reading'
- Therapy is always presented to children in such a way
that they enjoy it, therefore children usually really value
their visits to the therapist
