Aim of Sensory Training at Home
Sensory Training at Home educates parents to better understand and help their child with a learning or sensory processing problem. It does this by educating parents on how to help their children at home, using standard child development techniques.
However children who have learning problems must receive professional help. Children may be assisted by the audiologists, nutritionist, occupational therapist, optometrist, paediatrician, psychologist and speech pathologist. These professionals can assess child development and then design treatment to speed up development. Children can benefit enormously from developmental therapies and many problems are fully repaired by treatment. However sensory processing problems are often not eliminated completely and difficulties do persist into adulthood.
This is why Sensory Training at Home gives children self help techniques. They can use these for many years, long after formal therapy has been completed.
Ongoing sensory training helps the child reach his or her full potential. It is also very important because it reduces stress which can impair brain development.
Why use Sensory Training?
Sensory Training at Home teaches you how to use tried and tested techniques for mind development. This includes balance, movement and vision sensory training.
We all know that good sensory perception is essential for all learning. It is common for people with learning blocks to have mild sensory perceptual problems. Sometimes these are not even picked up by tests. This is why most child development therapies improve sensory perception with sensory training.
Sensory Training at Home shows parents how to use sensory training for mind development with their children. This augments formal therapy.
In addition to a formal therapy session every week, the child can now have daily input with a home program.
What will you learn?
Sensory Training includes aspects of the following programs:
- A movement integration program called, Help your child to learn, by Barbara Pheloung, remedial teacher.
- A whole brain integration program called, Brain Gym TM , by Paul and Gail Dennison, remedial educators.
- A vision training program called, Vision Gym, by Leonard Fine, optometrist.
Sensory Training for teachers
Teacher training does not generally include techniques for promoting brain development and learning.
Yet this knowledge can be very useful for primary and high school teachers. Sensory Training gives teachers easy fast tools for promoting learning in the classroom.
Sensory Training at Home runs every year
